PROFILE OF LONGMAI VILLAGE
GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION:
Longmai Village lies in the South West Manipur. The land was bless with rich forest resources, wild life and fertile soil. It is situated in Tamenglong District. It lies in between 24.59 Latitude and 93.30 Longtitude with 1243 metre above the sea level. It has an annual rainfall of about 30 mm-60 mm approximately. The entire village is about 30 sq km. Around 80% of the village is covered by forest with a lesser 20% of plain areas widely used for human settlement and farming.It is commonly called Noney the name given by the Britishers when they came to Manipur. Longmai bazar(Noney Bazar) is one of the biggest commercial hub in Tamenglong District.
BOUNDARY
NORTH: The North side is separated by Aga(Ejei) and Apin(Leimatak) rivers. The neighbouring Village are Rangkhung, Khumji(Lukhambi),Taoteap(Nungtek/Karuangmuan), Taosang, Luangrang and Luangchum
SOUTH
Neighbouring village are Charoi Tupul, Taosang
WEST
The tributaries of Apin and Aga meet in the Western part of the village. The Longrang village lies across Apin river and the Longchum village lies across Aga river.
EAST
Aga river flows from the East side running across the middle of the village. Kalong is the nearest village sharing the boundaries in the East.
MAJOR HILLS
The highest hill of longmai village that lies in the southern side are Thangkhang
Kaibut, Napsu Laubut and Kaipibut.The view of Imphal valley and Baengjang (Jiribam) can be seen from the hill top of Thangkang kaibut.
MAJOR RIVERS
Apin and Aga rivers run through the village. The Aga river covered a distances of about 28 km passing through the boundary line of Taoteap, Khumji, Rangkhung,Lungchum. The river provide stone and sandstone for construction work and most importantly fish for the people. The fish found in Aga river is famous for its unique taste. As Nile is the gift of Egypt, Aga is the gift of Longmai.
CLIMATE
Longmai village has a moderate climate. The village is free from natural calamities like drought, cyclone and earthquake. But sometimes uncertain Tropical Monsoon causes havoc in the village leading to flood and extreme weather particularly in Longmai Bazar and the village nearby.

Fruits: Orange,mango,guava,gooseberry, peach, wild fruits like walnuts, monkey rice, tamkhiang thai,talimthai,ruithai, kapiakthai etc.
Wild Animals: lion, tiger,bear,fox,deer,wild boar,antelope,stag,squirrel,monkeys,porcupine,mongoose,rabbit,flying squirrels etc
Domestic Animals: cow,bull,oxen,dog,sheep,goat,hen, pig, cat,duck etc.
Insects and Reptiles: python,snakes,chameleon,tortoise, lizard, locust,grasshopper, different species of butterfly, bees etc
Birds: dove, sparrow, eagles, owl, pigeon, parrot,nightingales,pelican, ruaiphutuan, ruaihuina,ruaingaona, ramruai, tamlaipui, arik, atidui, laikui etc.
